FAQ’s

We understand that you may have questions about dance, and our studio – below are some answers to questions we are frequently asked.

I’ve never danced before – can I still join?

Of course you can! It’s never too late. We love when adults can embrace being beginners – start off with our adult beginner ballet and as you feel more confident with some basics, you can move into one of our other adult classes.

Are classes in set terms, or can I come casually?

While the majority of our adult dancers attend for the full term, we understand that as adults there are other pressures on your time such as family and work commitments. We encourage all adults to attend for a full term, which is best for continuity of learning however if you know you’re unable to commit to a term, we do offer a casual drop in rate for our dancers. Dancers will still be required to enrol into the class, and you will be charged for each lesson you attend at the casual rate.

Am I too old?

Absolutely not! Dance has no age! We welcome adults of all ages in all our classes we’ve taught adults from 18 through to 80 . As long as you’re in sound health we would love to see you in class. If you would like a class that is a little more slow paced, we recommend our mature aged ballet class, which has more gentle movements and focus on balance and stability however all ages are welcome in all classes.

I have a child who wants to dance. Can they join?

At Adult Dance Collective, we work exclusively with dancers over 18. Our classes are a place for adults to connect and to share in their love for dance. We do not run children’s classes. However our sister studio Elite Dance caters to children from 2-18 and is run out of the same location. Please check in with the team at Elite Dance for children’s classes.

How do I enrol?

If you need help with class selection, please reach out and our team will help you with your enrolment. If you already know your class, click here to create an account on our student portal. This will allow you to select your class and reserve your place. All enrolments are required to be done through our student portal.

How do I pay?

All payments at Adult Dance Collective are run through autopay on our student portal. Once you have registered you’ll be able to enrol into autopay with your credit or debit card details. This is a secure payment system similar to gyms, and daycare centres.

If you’re enrolled for a full term, your fees will be charged in two installments. 50% at the beginning of term, and the balance in the middle of term. If you are enrolled and attending casually, you will be charged weekly for the classes you have attended.

What do I wear?

At Adult Dance Collective, we understand everyone has different comfort levels with their attire. Some students choose to wear traditional ballet attire including a leotard, skirt and tights, while others opt for general active wear. The choice is up to you, as long as you can move comfortably. We recommend tying long hair back in a bun or ponytail to keep it off your face for class.

Correct dance shoes for your class will be required (ballet shoes, jazz shoes or tap shoes) which can be purchased from Dancestuff in Gosford. Dancers enrolling into pointe class will need their pointe shoes professionally fitted. Please see the team at Dancestuff for this if you’re new to pointe work.

We also recommend bringing water to drink during class

Can I take private lessons?

We have a limited number of private lessons available each term and private lesson time slots are booked on a per term basis. Private lessons are charged weekly for your classes and you can book in each term as required. Some of the reasons our dancers choose private lessons are:

  • Time availability (if they are unable to make it to our group classes)
  • Extra preparation for exams they are working towards
  • Feeling more comfortable in a one-on-one setting to begin with
  • Learning or polishing a solo routine

Private lessons run for 30 minutes.

Are there performances?

While performing is never a compulsory requirement, our adult dancers are invited to join the twice annual performances of our sister studio Elite Dance. This gives our dancers a goal to work towards and a chance to perform on stage. It is a wonderful way to track your progress each year and to celebrate the achievements you have made.

“So many of the adults I dance with are excellent dancers, no matter how many years it’s been! Some of us have lost a bit of flexibility and our knees click a bit more (which was bound to happen!) but the musicality, commitment to improving and most importantly the passion for dance hasn’t wavered at all, and that’s great to see..”
